POSTFACE IMAGES a project by spike art magazine. IMAGES by HEAD – GENÈVE Ce catalogue est le numéro 15 d’OBzine, un fanzine et un projet d’éditions d’artistes créés à Genève en 2005 par les artistes Kim Seob Boninsegni et Aurélien Gamboni. Réalisé grâce à une invitation de la Haute école d’art et de design –– Genève sur proposition de son directeur Jean-Pierre Greff, ce numéro résulte d’une collaboration entre un groupe d’étudiants de la haute école, Daniel Baumann et Kim Seob Boninsegni (chargés de ce projet) ainsi que Christian Kobald et Rita Vitorelli, artistes et curateurs d’Images, une exposition qui s’est tenue à Vienne entre le 26 septembre et le 7 octobre 2007. IMAGES a project by spike art magazine. IMAGES by HEAD – GENÈVE documente dans un premier temps l’exposition Images qui a eu lieu à Vienne. L’enjeu premier d’Images est d’interroger la vie parallèle des images ainsi que l’espace qui s’insère entre deux reproductions (voir annexe plus bas). Compilant la documentation de l’exposition originelle, ce fanzine a été élaboré par les étudiants de la HEAD – GENÈVE qui ont eu la liberté de travailler à partir de la démarche initiale de leurs pairs. Certains ont préféré se limiter à une « simple » reproduction, d’autres ont dépassé ce postulat de base: ils ont remplacé la reproduction par une re-création ou une réappropriation (dans ce dernier cas, l’index mentionne les auteurs de la re-création). Au cours de cette démarche visant la documentation d’une œuvre ou d’une image - aux possibilités de reproduction et transformations inévitables - les étudiants ont eux-mêmes développé un travail sur le thème et la procédure proposés par Images. Ainsi, en documentant un travail existant et en élaborant une proposition individuelle et singulière, IMAGES a project by spike art magazine. IMAGES by HEAD – GENÈVE discute, modifie et élargit le propos tenu par l’exposition de Vienne. Il s’agit d’une relecture d’Images pour en fin de compte la transformer en une histoire sans fin. Alors que les œuvres « viennoises » ont été conçues pour figurer dans un espace d’exposition avant d’être traduites en images pour un catalogue, les travaux « genevois » ont été conçus pour OBfanzine pour ensuite être transférés dans l’espace d’exposition de Forde. L’exposition qui en résulte présente un ensemble d’œuvres mêlant les travaux de la première exposition ainsi que ceux des étudiants-artistes de la HEAD – GENÈVE qui ont participé à ce projet. It is the only surveying document of a number of letters he wrote to friends on a weekly basis and may offer some insight into the reason why he stopped produced work then later vanishing without a trace. The image is probably an early picture from a TV taken by somebody else to be reproduced in a catalogue on the work of Boetti. IMAGES a project by spike art magazine

One artistic work leads several different lives: as an original, a reproduction, a story and a memory. The exhibition Images is concerned with the idea of the reproduction as a picture. Not as appropriation, but rather as part of everyday life: the reproduction of artistic works in catalogues, books, magazines, portfolios, press folders, archives and on websites, as well as their aesthetic structures. In the variety of ways they appear, these “secondary pictures”, which are omnipresent in the art world, constitute an enormous parallel exhibition above and beyond temporal and local conditions. In this sense, these “pictures of pictures” are not actually a secondary phenomenon at all, but a separate field with its own definable significance. Images asserts that parallel pictures are autonomous and have an aura of their own, which is derived from the particular features of their materials, colours and dimensions, but is also based on the paths these pictures take through the imagination - as well as the pragmatism of their distribution.
